Who cares? I respect Mel Gibson as an actor and a director much more than most people in that building. Almost everyone has stereotypes they are guilty of, and he made the mistake of getting very drunk and letting the booze do the talking. I've said something I've regretted before, why the hell should we hold him to a higher standard. It's actually a little nice to see someone in hollywood who isn't going with the mass flow of things... even if I don't agree with their opinion.

I'm not sure if he was there or not but maybe he wasn't because he wasn't nominated? If every single person who worked in Hollywood turned up who wasn't nominated they couldn't fit them all in the building. If Mel really wanted to get in I'm guessing they would have made a place for him, but again why would he want to go?

I don't think it was politically correct in an event where jewish people where present being his racists comments still to fresh, besides his movie wasn't that nominated so why risk himself?

Probably hiding. He angered a lot of people. And like Ellen said towards the beginning of the show, if it wasn't for blacks, jews and gays, there would be no movies! :)
