I played softball for 12 years and I love it so much! Best advice anyone can give you is to just have fun with it. Don't worry too much about technique or winning.
If you really want some tips though:
Batting - if you're right handed line up your left foot with the middle corner of the plate (not the corner closest to the catcher and not the one closer to the pitcher). If you're left handed line up on the other side of the plate with your right foot at that corner. Don't stand too close to the plate - it makes it harder to hit a ball any good distance and you're more likely to get hit by a pitch. A good rule of thumb is to stay somewhere in the middle of the batter's box. Keep your back elbow up, keep your eye on the ball, step straight toward the pitcher, and swing level.
Running - When running to first run on the right side of the foul line so that if you have a chance to continue to second you can curve onto the inside of 1st base and go to 2nd. It's better than running straight to first, pivoting, then running to second.
Fielding - Stay in front of the ball. Don't be afraid of getting hit, it will happen, but usually it doesn't hurt that bad and if it does hurt it will stop after a while. When a grounder is coming at you, straddle the path the ball is taking and place your glove directly in the path on the ground. Then stand, take a moment to look at your target (a baseman or catcher), step toward your target with the leg opposite your throwing arm, and throw.
There is plenty more but don't feel overwhelmed. Most of this stuff you can master in one or two practices. The most important tip though is just to go at it and have fun. Be loose because if you're too uptight about getting everything right, it won't be fun.

A common thing for first time ball players to do is lift their back foot when they swing. You should take a little step with your front foot when the ball comes in, and then keep them planted as you swing. Your back foot should just pivot as you swing staying on the ground and keeping you balance.
Another thing when you field use two hands and keep your eye on the ball. if it's a ground ball keep your mit low, and don't bring it up unless the ball will for surely bounce over it.

Don't be afraid to go high and tight, buzz the tower, throw a little chin music.
