King City is about one hour south of Monterey. It is very close to Soledad State Prison. It is definitely not considered Bay Area.

King City is quickly becoming part of the far south bay area. It is the southernmost point of the public transportation system within the Bay Area. It is in Monterey County and the closest larger business districts would be Salinas & Monterey. People from King City can commute to locations northward by using the MST bus system to San Jose and from there connect to Cal-Trail etc.
