I think Queen was and is still incredibly popular regardless of the sexual orientation of Freddie Mercury. Maybe your peers are just idiots?

Queen was, and is, a great band. There are a lot of bands with gay people in them, some out some not. I think Queen was popular partly based on the fact that freddie was gay. The gay men liked him, the straight men wanted to be like him and the women wanted to change him. either way, he was a great musician, and their music is in all sorts of commercials and ads and sampled in other songs, i think that means they were very popular.

Freddie Mercury was an outright genius, a fantastic performer, and an outstanding musician. Anyone who rags on him or Queen is simply jealous. I do NOT think they could have been any MORE popular if he was "straight". Queen is/was a HUGE monumental band, and one of the most memorable in this century. "We Will Rock You" is a STANDARD in rock n roll. I just can't say enough good things. Be proud to be yourself, be proud to be different, be proud you like Queen, and hold your head high, because we really are the champions.

Queen was a very popular band. I think the quality of an artist's or group's music is much more important to their popularity than any particular person's sexual orientation. Feel free to like whatever music you want to. Screw what those people think. If I want to like Melissa Etheridge's music then I will. If someone called me a "lesbian" because of it then I would have two words for that person (which, unfortunately, I can't say on here).

When I found out that Freddie Mercury was gay I was just like "yeah, that makes sense" He's amazing and I don't think most people who love Queen are going to really care

I love Freddie Mercury and the fact that he was bi is not an issue to me. However I do believe that Queen (as great as a band as they are) wouldn't have received as much press as they did had he not been gay. Also his persona on stage is that of a bi/gay man (in my opinion) and would not have been the same as he was if he was straight.

The band's song plays at sporting events (we will rock you) that is like an anthem of sorts. And, if a song that good can play at games-then that just shows that the band is loved by majority. They have many singles, hits that it is beyond demeaning the band because of a front man's sexuality.

Freddie Mercury was gay?
Wow...that explains a bit...
I don't think it would make a difference. Queen rocks. Besides, look what trashing Bush did for the Dixie Chicks...who also rock by the way...

Their music is awesome. My father likes their music too, even FM is gay. (and he is a bit 'against' gayness)
and there are sooo many artists who are gay. Who cares? I don't think their popularity would increase if they would be straight. Actually people talk the more about them cause of their gayness. haha, extra advertising ;-)
but seriously, I don't think it would make a big difference.
Queen is great ^_^

I didn't care if he was gay, they still have the greatest music.
Rob Halford from Judas Priest was gay too and i loved their music.
I really don't care about someones sexual preference,if they put out music like that.....rock on.
I am a big Elton John fan too.
