Oh my goodness! I am so excited that The Departed just won best picture at the Oscars! I have seen 3 of the five movies nominated, including Little Miss Sunshine(which I own) and Babel, but I was really rooting for The Departed to take it! I thought that Babel had it in the bag, but boy was I wrong? Anyone glad that it won?

I just saw Babel tonight, during part of the Oscars, and I wasn't too impressed. Yeah the acting is really great, but I didn't like how slow it was. I also didn't find it as amazing as the critics said. It was just so so to me.

I'm pretty excited about the departed winning also, it was clearly the best of the nominated movies. The only one on the list I didn't see was Letters from Iwo Jima. Little Miss Sunshine was a great movie but a longshot for a comedy to win best picture. The Queen was decent, but not the best movie of the year in my opinion.

I'm kind of surprised so many people are rooting for Babel, I mean it is so overhyped, did people actually watch it? Decent acting, absurdly drawn out storyline though and quite predictable. It seems to me the type of movie that is made solely to do well at awards, but not made to be the best movie possible.

Absolutly! This Was Movie Was The Complete Package! I'm Not Even A Big Fan Of Leonardo DiCaprio Or Matt Damon, But Nobody Was Going To Be Able To Deny This Movie Best Picture. I Will Admit I Have Yet To See Babel, But I Don't See It Comparing To The Departed. It Really Annoys Me To Read The Yahoo Movie Reviews And See So Many People "Disgusted" With The Use Of The F-Bomb In The Movie, As If It Is Not Like Real Life. I Work In A Restaurant And Have Heard People Use The F-word In The Most Meaningless Ways Possible, Including Myself, I Thought Part Of Making A Great Movie Was Making It As True To Life As Possible? My Other Favorite Review I Read Was "It's Degrading To the Irish!" Are You For Real? I Don't Think The Sopranos Is Degrading To Italians, It's Life Deal With It, There Is Such A Thing As Irish Organized Crime, So Just Because They Made A Movie About It, Doesn't Make It Slandor! And Lastly, "It's A Remake Of A Hong Kong Movie" Why Can't It Be It's Own Movie! Why Does Everyone Need To Compare It To The Hong Kong Version? Forget It Ever Existed, Don't Compare It, It Is It's Own Movie, A Great one At That!!!

I like The Departed a lot, I havn't seen the other nominees for best picture though so I don't know if it deserved it. But I thought it was an excellent movie with some awesome acting by DiCaprio; I felt sorry for his character.

I will probably see Babel, but I doubt I'll think it's as intense as The Departed was. I'm glad it won. : )

I am happy for Mr. Scorsese. His body of work has earned him the two Oscars--but NOT The Departed.

I mean, that film was like "Goodwill Hunting" on speed and steroids.

The Academy likely made a political move by bestowing him the awards. I was expecting that, which is why I didn't bother watching the ceremony.

It's all a popularity contest anyway.

I actually didn't like The Departed. I was slightly apathetic towards it. I wasn't very happy with any of the Best Picture nominees, though, so may as well give it to a Scorcese pic.

Personally, I wish Pan's Labyrinth had been eligible for Best Picture, and I'm disappointed that it didn't take Best Foreign Language Film.

Not really, Babel should have won.
The Departed is just the English interpretation of Infernal Affairs from Hong Kong, so what is so original about it.
Go rent the original with English subtitles and compare, except for some cultural reinterpretations, they are exactly the same movie, so should the original scriptwriter and director from Hong Kong win the oscar instead?

Well, I never saw the movie but I'm happy to see that Scorsese finally got his Oscar.

No I am not. "United 93" should have won. Mr. Sorcese is a great director, but this picture was lousy.
