Planks of wood can also be placed at different levels within the scaffolding, this gives the workers more tool storage options and room when working. Drywallers and painters are two of the many trade occupations that frequently use scaffolding to get their job done. Wheels that lock in place are usually added to the bottom of their scaffolding structures allowing the workers to work alone and easily more their temporary structure to a new location. Many work injuries have occurred as a result of improper assembly of the scaffolding structure. Be sure to thoroughly check over all the connecting parts before climbing aboard.
Scaffolding doesn't always have to be about work. Many skateboarders, bmx riders, rollerbladers, and snowboarders have adopted this type of temporary structure for play. Extreme sports events use scaffolding as drop-ins. Perfect for anytime of year, the scaffolding makes competitions an easy set-up and tear-down process. Growing in popularity is the out of season extreme sport demos, for example a snowboard competition in the hot summer weather. Scaffolding is used to create a drop-in, and then wood is added as the down ramp with arena snow thrown on top. Kids have caught on and are putting up their own scaffolding for sport use all over neighborhoods.
Film and television media have also adopted the use of scaffolding. To view above the crowds television stations use scaffolding to hold up their camera crews to capture the best footage. Used primarily for big events, you will see scaffolding used at the Olympics and other city attractions. Cheap scaffolding can be rented from any construction rental company and is a great way to build a quick no mess temporary structure.

I don't think that it's a term for a specific type of business (like a pyramid scheme), but it's simply a business that sells/produces scaffolding.
Scaffolding is a temporary framework used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other large structures. It is usually a modular system of metal pipes (termed tubes in Britain), although it can be made out of other materials. Bamboo is still used frequently in Asia.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

Structures that are temporary to work on the outside of buildings. They are made from piping that are criss-cross on ends and rectangular shaped to hold boards, that usually are 2x10's. This is one section , several sections are stacked to work in higher places. The boards are what the workers stand on.
