Your doctor should be able to give you an excuse for work, it may fall under short term disability.
There was a law passed in 1978 that states that you cannot be fired due to pregnancy. I am not sure of the exact guidelines.

I can totally relate with your problem. The only thing I can tell you is to talk to your doctor. There are many drugs out there that may help you. But I do have to warn you that it may not go away. I did have to leave my job unfortunately. I was lucky and had my spouse to depend on for financial help. But I was sick with my pregnancy from 6 weeks till I delivered. I gained only 9 lbs during my pregnancy and was hopitalized many times for dehydration.
There is no one way to help with sickness during pregnancy, but there may be some other ways to cope with it. I'll try to give you some of the things that seemed to help me. Just know that I did have to switch things up since after a little while the self help cures stopped working.
First talk to your doctor about a medicine. But be warned that the medicine may cause you to become drowsy, so this is something you must consider before taking. Also some of the medicines come in suppository form if you are unable to keep down a pill before it starts working.
Second, no matter how thirsty you get only sip your drink. And don't drink when you are eating. I know this sounds strange and I am not telling you not to drink. It seems that when you eat something solid then drink, the combination of the 2 can make you nausiated. So sip on water throughout the day so you don't get dehydrated, and wait awhile after you eat to sip on your drink.
Three, try a variety of dry foods to nibble on before you even get out of bed in the morning. Things that helped me were toast, toast with peanut butter, and saltines. you also might want to carry something with you in case you start to feel nausous throughout the day.
I don't know if your doctor would be able to help you with your sick leave. It has been 10 years since I have had to deal with this problem, but I wish you the best and I hope you don't lose your job.
Also you should be able to call your doctors office and they should have answering service where your doctor or a doctor on call can be reached to call you in some medicine to a 24 hour pharamacy. This is if you can't wait till the morning. I hope this helps.

This is exactly what I went through--my sickness was so severe that I lost 21 pounds in less than two weeks, and was admitted to the hospital and kept there for 2 weeks.
You need to fill out an FMLA form (Family Medical Leave Act) and have your doctor sign it. Once you turn that in to your employer, they cannot take any action against you for absences related to this problem. They can't even count those absences at all.
There are some clauses though: You have to have been employed by them for 12 months, but those months do not need to be consecutive. Also, you need to have worked at least 1,250 hours (if memory serves me correctly) during that time. Fulltime is 2,080 hours.
I got lucky, even though I wasn't approved for an FMLA leave (I hadn't worked enough hours in the previous year, due to migraines), I was approved for a generic medical leave for up to 6 weeks. They cannot hold those absences against me, and I even got "income protection," meaning I was still paid 60% of my pay during my leave of absence. Not every company offers that, though. Call your HR and ask what your options are if you don't qualify for a FMLA leave.
Good luck!

You'll probably end up getting fired. The doctor isn't going to give you an excuse to be off work for a month unless you want to take your maternity leave early. I suggest you go to your H.R. department and look up their pregnancy leave policy as well as their sick leave policy. If you signed a contract with your employer then you signed that you acknoweldge ALL of their policies including sick/maternity leave policies. That little law of 1978 does not prohibit empoyers from firing employees as long as the company policy states sick leave and maternity leave requirments and the emplyee signed a contract. That is why you READ EVERYTHING your employer hands you to sign because once you have you have no recourse.

any company that fires a woman because of Morning sickness should be taken to court and fined I say.
of course it is easy for me to take the high moral ground as it is not me who is preggers, feeling ill and maybe about to lose my job because of it. bah.
In Australia where i live it would be illegal to fire you because you are pregnant and/or suffering from 'morning' sickness. It may be different where you live.
Definately talk to a doctor. Being that sick all the time is just awful. hope you get through this and have lots of support around you.

I took almost my whole pregnancy off of work. My boss was great. i cancelled a whack of shifts and was upfront, telling her why. Then I got a doctors note and have been off since month 2. For me it was the exhaustion. It got so bad I would get shaky and dizzy and weak. I needed lots of rest. They can't fire for that. But they can fire you (maybe) for too many sick days. Geez you are pregnant.. they dont' sound understanding. Go on medical leave. that's what I did and they won't have a legal ground to stand on

WARNING** Ive read the messages on here, and the ppl telling you to get your doctor to give you some medicine, Dont do it! I am pregnant now, and I have missed work for 2weeks and I am still sick, The only thing that has worked is taking the B6 vitamin, ask your doctor about it. Something in it calms your stomach. Most of the prescribed drugs for morning sickness most obgyns will not prescribe but only in rare cases because the chances of birth defects are so high. please dont take prescribed drugs for morning sickness, look them up, they have high rates of birth defects
