How could black people "get over slavery"? Are u serious? Are you really that self-centered? Yes, slavery happened long ago, but black people can't just "get over slavery", those are our ancestors, people fought for us to be free today, our ancestors where beaten and killed, how can we just get over slavery? ok...since we should get over slavery, I guess the Jews, should get over the Holocaust, 9/11 families should get over losing their loved ones from 9/11, these things may not have happened to us personally, but it still have an effect on us. Yes, I do believe black people, should stop pulling the race card and stop blaming everything on society and bringing up slavery every chance they get, because they do have the opportunity to do something with themselves, but at the same time, You tell blacks to get over slavery, but yet, You and your other friends still have the slavery mentality as well, Everytime you call us a Ni**er, everytime you come on here making racist postings...

I agree. when I think that slavery was less than 150 years ago, I think that that's not long at all. Many black people's grandparent's parents could have been slaves, and that's not very far removed. Culturally, I think that can be devastating, although, I agree that the "victim mentality" can be detrimental. When people say "Get over slavery"-they say it because they have never been in the position of the person they are saying it to, and they are ignorant and lack empathy, but that's just my opinion.
"Deshawn"-How can you possibly really believe that? A few hand picked "quotes" aside, slaves DID NOT have "a high standard of living" they were treated like property, like cattle! And it doesn't matter HOW they were treated, they could have lived like kings for all I care, and the fact remains that they were being denied their basic human rights to life and liberty. Sure, some "masters" may have treated their slaves decently, but rest assured, there were others that were inhumanly brutal...absolute power corrupts absolutely, and having THAT much power over another human being is bound to warp a person's mind. You are deluding yourself if you believe what you wrote...read what other actual slaves have written, such as Frederick Douglas, and Sojourner Truth. I GUARANTEE you that website left off what the slaves who didn't view their involuntary servitude as "the best thing that ever happened to them" had to say.

I first would like to say I agree that asking families to get over the events from 9/11 or the Holocaust is just wrong and ridiculous. However I think maybe your asking when should you "Get Over" events, I would say when there are no living generations of that time. If I were to live to be 300 yrs old and seen somebody ranting and raving about the Holocaust then I would infact tell them to shut it. I would because in all honesty were they there? Were there parents? Even grandparents? Yes slavery is wrong and it is history that took place and should be rememberd but to say that it currently effects you? I am American Indian and after all the terrible events that took place in our history, keeping in mind we were the first slaves in America, it does not effect me at all. I work and am a productive citizen like anyone has the opportunity to be in this country and if I feel that If I have any pride for my ancesters I would not use that as an excuse in regards to my life. Not only does it announce that I am weak but it brings the delusion that all Natives are weak and ignorant, if we can't stop talking about the wrong doings that took place way before we were born. I think every race has had there wouned knee, slavery, or some kind of hard times so the complaining could just be forever but sometime or the other we just gotta move on and have pride in who we are by how we conduct our day to day life and what we achieve not by crying about hundreds of years ago.

Yes, eventually people have to move on after something devastating happens. People have to get over slavery. People have to get over 9/11. People have to get over the Holocaust. People have to get over themselves - not just white people, but all people. The white people have to stop with the racist postings, and the black people have to stop with the racist postings. They have to get over the past so that they can move on with their lives. If you dwell on the past too much, you can't live in the present. The fact is, everyone has hardships in life. We all have to get over it, even though the hurt will always be there.

I really can't care at all whether a person in modern society is over slavery or not. I mean it. If you can't get over something that never happened to you, or anyone you know (Emancipation was declared by executive order in 1863 - NO ONE knows anyone who used to be an African origin slave in America anymore,) then there just can't be much to say, huh?
General racism, though, is still all over the place - Desegregation only happened about 50 years ago. So yes, there may still be a few wounds from that one.
In all, though, I feel like it's great to be a part of a generation that has everyone's equality legally guaranteed - we actually have a chance to put alot of this racial crap behind us, if only we quit poking at it!

The lucky Africans were the ones who came over here instead of living with famine and disease in the motherland. If you little mush minds really want to learn about what really happened, please click on the link provided below and read some REAL interviews with REAL slaves. My guess though is that most of you won't because it's easier to play the race card and the "my ancestors were slaves so you owe me" card.
The highest living standard and most happiness blacks have ever achieved was when they were slaves in the old south. They had everything taken care of for them, suitable quarters to live in, three square meals every day, and someone to watch over them. Life was good and many ex-slaves said so when they were interviewed many years ago. Slavery wasn't like it is portrayed in the movies. Slaves were very expensive and their owners knew that in order to get the most work out of them they would have to treat them decently and make sure they were healthy and reasonably happy.

Yes, everyone should "get over" all those things. Only the positive will make any changes in this world. You should live in the now. There is not one person on this planet who cannot look to their past or their ancestry and point to something horrible like slavery or holocaust or burning to death or being slain as an infidel or a myriad of other terrible, terrible atrocities that humans performed on other humans. However, these things are over and we should be glad to leave them behind us, learning and moving on.

i totally disagree with you. People like yourself always say "OH lordy! The whites are to blame! They treated us horrible!" Your blaming this generation for what happend a long time ago! Its not fair. And the 9/11 and the jews dont feel sorry for themselves. But you do and thats what is really annoying. So stop living in the past. And i BET you are racist against whites. I'm sick and tired of SOME blacks blaming every racist thing against whites
