I believe it was a young adult novel, I was prob in middle school. It was about a mother who abandoned her 4 [could be 3] children and their struggle to survive. I believed they journeyed to find the one aunt they knew of. Thats all I remember. It was a really good book and I want to find it so my little sister can read it. can anyone help me.

I think you are thinking of Homecoming and Dicey's Song by Cynthia Voigt. It is about children whose mother goes missing and they travel a great distance together on foot to get to the home of their grandmother, who initially rejects them and wants them to live with other relatives who want to separate them. The children work around her house and try to make themselves useful so she won't make them leave. Through the course of the summer the children realize that the grandmother is mean to them because she is afraid to love people and get close to them beacause of all the loss in her life. I won't tell you anymore in case you are going to read them again. homecoming is first, Dicey's song is the sequel. There was also a TV movie adapted; it was really good.

Book Description
"IT'S STILL TRUE."
That's the first thing James Tillerman says to his sister Dicey every morning. It's still true that their mother has abandoned the four Tillerman children somewhere in the middle of Connecticut. It's still true they have to find their way, somehow, to Great-aunt Cilla's house in Bridgeport, which may be their only hope of staying together as a family.
But when they get to Bridgeport, they learn that Great-aunt Cilla has died, and the home they find with her daughter, Eunice, isn't the permanent haven they've been searching for. So their journey continues to its unexpected conclusion -- and some surprising discoveries about their history, and their future.

If not the book mentioned in the other answer, it might be The Growing Summer, by Noel Streatfeild. It's about some kids who end up in Ireland with their weird Aunt Dymphna.

Sounds like a VC Andrews type of story. Maybe Flowers in the Attic or one of the sequels.
