A note sent from a friend - don't know the source but here it is:
Continuously ask: What is right here?
What is this sensation? This emotion?
This thought? This experience?
Then ask: Who is experiencing it?
hope this helps.

Selfishness is the manifestation of natural self-preservation instinct.
You can control it to a large extent by understanding the facts that every one wants to be happy and happiness is the out come of sharing caring and recognition.
Life is all about give and take. Think about what you are giving in return to what you are expecting. Are you too greedy? Be fair in assessment.
This thinking will help you in long run and over come greedy selfishness.

Selfishness, at times, is a defense mechanism. It protects one from being absorbed by really selfish people.
Treat your own selfishness with the respect that you would accord to the rights of others, and don't let your "goodness" and "unselfishness" become a suicide pact. Giving without limits helps no one.

You can't. That selfishness is what motivates us to eat, drink, sleep, and look after ourselves. There is nothing wrong with being selfish; however, to be wholly self-absorbed is damaging. That is what should be addressed not the inherent human nature of selfishness.
Unfortunately I do not agree with most people and I do not demonize human nature simply because there are negative connotations for human behavior.

It's human instinct to be selfish, so it's a bit hard. Just try to learn to care for another person and give yourself to them unconditionally, like a best friend. Spoil them just a bit, but not enough to make them dependant upon you for it.

by loving others! atleast trying to love others.
we can love by forgiving the people whom we find hard to love.
Jesus said to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.
and He also said that , that was the greatest of all commandments!
now i hear some people say that we are not God to love all.
but remember that if loving others was not possible , God would have never asked us to do that!
