the shot rolled along the top of the backboard before going in the basket. Does that count?

in the past couple of years, nba has changed the ruling as to where the ball touching the top of the backboard is out of bounds. in years prior this would have been considered a basket

I think if it goes behind the actual plane of the backboard, THEN it's out of bounds. I'm not sure but I think I remember an NBA game where there was a shot where the ball kinda sat on the top of the backboard for a second and went in and they counted it

Nope the shot does not count. The top of the backboard is out of bounds so if the ball touches it; it's considered out of bounds. If it goes in oafter touching the top the refs will consult and decide if it truly did touch the top then they will rule it as a no basket. Hope that helped.

yes it counts, as long as it doesn't hit the shot clock. but once a ball goes completely behind the backboard, it's considered out of bounds. otherwise all four sides of the backboard are considered in bounds. so it can hit the sides, top, or even bottom of the backboard and stay in play.

If I remember correctly, in pro ball, top of the backboard is in bounds so that would be a good shot. If it hit the shot clock its out of bounds.

You just said the "ball goes in the basket, is it in" what part of out is there. NONE. it went in....... you answered it yourself....

If a ball hits the top of the backboard and goes forward, it is good, if it roll or bounces behind, it is out.

i think it does. we just got done with basketball in gym and i think if that happened our coach would count it. The only reason it got out for going on the backboard was if the ball went behind the backboard and got messed up in the bars there.
good luck with what you want to find out.
but maybe its out of bounds- im actually not sure because i do not play basketball for school.

Its supposed to be out of bounds but sometimes if you have a rookie/bad ref then sometimes they would count it
