i say hello, and smile, they may be strangers but they are people... and while 1 of a 100 might be a threat that is no reason to ride off the rest of the population as evil people... also this has a lot to do with our parents telling us that when we were growing up, so that we are not mislead into believing someone is safe to go with or what not... but because people in this era have forgotten that life isn't just themselves living on a rock with alien lifeforms, but it is a life living in cohabitation and someone has to spread the love...

no you should not say hello to strangers if they seem bad or if they seem like they would get you in trouble
but sometimes i would say yes if they are nice polite and kind.

Much more so when I'm in Texas or somewhere else in the south, but yes, I do. Isn't it ironic, though, that we teach our children not to talk to strangers?

For a laugh sometimes we pretend we know them and scream out to them across the street "sam! how r u? i havent seen you for ages! Its Bianca!!"

I either say... Hey! in a low tone or nod my head but never say hello to women. The women here think your coming on to them. The men think your gay if you say more than one word salutation.. So hey, or yo is pretty much it.

If the person looks peaceful, and their head is not attached to a cell phone. Sometimes I just nod or smile.

if i'm in the mood buti have to make eye contact usually. most people will say hello back or at least smile.
