When ever you receive an email the email comes with Headers which would contain the Originator, his mail server the route taken and the destination email server.

The details would be IP Addresses, Mail server version numbers and Operating system used by the mail servers.

But all email headers are not easy to read and decode.

It's hit and miss. If it's from a webmail account it's even trickier since the server sending the mail could be from just the closest country.

Yes, the headers to provide a lot of information, but the route the email takes is just the quickest at the time, regardless of the geographic route. Many times the first IP hop is the closest, so that can be a good idea. Check out the following sites to see if this is what you're looking for:

You can trace the IP address down to their ISP. The ISP will not disclose thier cliets exact location with out a court order. This may help locate ones location... If everything is legit that is. If they are up to no good, sometimes the IP may be spoofed. This takes some tools to accomplish. Some email headers are rather vague, so good luck.

i think the ip address of a computer can be used to find someones exact location but you cant do it just by looking at it, for that you would need the help of a police department. and only if the other person has commited a crime and you have filed a report against them and you are seeking legal help to take them to court.
