My boss pinched me...?

Yeah, what a dick. Anyway, It was witnessed by my coworker, and reported to HR. Basically, the company is trying to sweep the incident under the rug. Anyway, should I shoot him or file a lawsuit or let it slide? It's still bugging me and it's been several months.
If I decide to file a lawsuit, what do I need to do? I am in California.
