How do the systems differ as far as the subscriber is concerned.What is the benefit or advantage of one over the other

Some country like Japan and Korea use CDMA and most of the country in the world use GPRS. CDMA run on higher frequency which give you faster connection.
How to choose between GPRS and CDMA depend on networks subscriber. if your phone has a roaming it will auto detect to choose the best connection avaliable. If you are not in japan and korea, usually runs on GPRS.

I think U want comparison between CDMA and GSM phones. GPRS is something different used to access the internet on mobile and it is possible in any phone with supports it and the service provider provides GPRS facility. Both CDMA and GSM service providers provide GPRS in India.
