I've been hand washing dishes for my father since I was a young boy, recently my father just got a dishwasher for our farm house. I mean the time it takes to rinse the dishes and then stake up the dishes. It's such a hassle. Maybe it takes skill to quickly and professionally stack the dishes. I've only had a dishwasher for a week literally. actually less. It's been around for many years, but we have only gotten it now.

I dont suppose its really faster but its less manual labor. Once you get the hang of it and you load them in a particular manner and you get it running, you have the dishwasher working and you can do other things and you are assured that they are all washed the same amount of time, temperature, etc. I still know a bunch of people who dont use their dishwasher and prefer handwashing. My mother in law uses it as extra storage in her kitchen!

Honey! No quick proffessional ways. It comes with instructions on how to stack.
PROS.
1. A dishwasher is convenient when there are stacks from say a cookout with friends or a weeks worth of dishes.
2.You don't have to stand and hand wash properly, you can be doing something else.
3.The trick is to wait until it's full then wash.
4.The most important is it kills bacteria because the water is much hoter and forced onto your plates.
CONS.
The down side is you'll need to get more dishes, to use when others in dishwasher.
2. Pots and Pans can be a bit tricky in a dishwasher unless you have one that can hold them. So you still have to hand wash them.
3.Your hot water bill goes up a little. It uses more water too.
I would use one as I'm sick of washing large loads but for a couple of dishes I'd hand wash.
I hope that helps Lynda

It depends on the kind of dishwasher. We ended up buying a nice model for the reason because we had a stinky dishwasher when living in our apartment. When we bought our house we spent the extra money to upgrade our dishwasher and we don't have to pre-rinse at all. It takes maybe 5 minutes to load it and about 5 to put them away. I would have spent nearly a hour washing all the dishes that we can fit into the dishwasher (and I pretty much put anything in our dishwasher but our fine china and crystal...and we rarely use those.)

With a good dishwasher there is absolutely no reason to pre-rinse the dishes--just scrape off any big hunks of uneaten food if there is any. As long as you don't rinse, it takes a LOT less time than hand washing and also gets the dishes cleaner, as the dishwasher uses hotter water than you can use by hand.

wipe grease off with a paper towel, grease will plug up your plumbing, the dishwasher isnt faster but it saves your skin and it also is much more hygenic so if anyone is ill or has allergies its best to use a dishwasher, but it does use more water too. so we use the dishwasher if anyone has the sniffles or a tummy ache, otherwise once a week to keep it clean inside, more in winter and less in summer because it uses a lot of electricity and competes with the a/c and pops the circuits, i also only use the dryer late at night in summer if at all, i usually hang clothes on hangers over the washer to dry, here in las vegas they dry fairly quick as there is no moisture in the air.

I think time wise they are about the same. One difference is that the dishwasher will get the dishes/utensils hotter and sterilize them. Just be sure and clean stuff like cheese and grease off the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.

The dishwasher uses lass water plus i heats the water higher than a hand get use safely so it gets rid of all the grease and disinfects the utensils so its better.

using a dishwasher is not fast, the only good thing is that while it is washing you can be doing other things. it also depends how big the family is and how busy you are.

It may not be faster, but it is less work as far as I am concerned.
You will appreciate it at the Holidays. I won't go without one.
All you really need to to do is scrape plates.
