I couldn't agree more. Barry Gibb is one of the all time great song writers. He's writen songs for so many other artists too. There's going to be a songs by Barry Gibb night on American Idol this season, and people will be blown away by the number of great songs that he has written for other people.

It's the unfortunate reality of the music world. Rarely ever is someone "properly-rated". The bee-gees were a great group. But they and a million other great groups suffer from a disease called bad luck. And in the unfortunate reality of the poular music industry, most of the time luck is the determining factor of your career.

The Bee Gees are great. I saw them at the Summit in Houston in 79'. John Travolta came out and did the moves from Saturday Night Fever. He had a beard and was in Houston filming the Urban Cowboy. It was a really great show!
I don't really think they are under rated, it's more the style of music they performed was faddish and public taste moved on.
I know that after Urban Cowboy came out, we all became "cowboys" and loved Mickey Gilley and Charlie Daniels.
Talk about lemmings!(LOL)

I think it is because The Bee Gees who saw a chance to do a soundtrack that could expand them vocally and that soundtrack is so connected to the disco era that people falsely assume that they were a disco band when in fact they had been performing for years before and also for years after.

I don't believe they are... they were huge in the late 60's and all through the 70's and they have lasted over the rest of the decades. They aren't done yet..they continue to write and direct others and continue making music. Unfortunately they have lost two brothers Maurice...and Andy. But, I do feel they aren't underrated...several awards have been given to them.. Just look at Saturday Night Fevers Soundtrack.

Um... They're not under-rated. They have like one of the best-selling albums ever. They're like some of the richest musicians to ever inhabit Earth.
You should respect them more.
