My reason for asking this is because every Duke and Carolina game I watch and go to it seems as if the refs won't call anything questionable on Duke or UNC. They always seem to hesitate when it comes to calling fouls on those two teams. I believe it has to do with money. UNC and Duke bring a great deal of money to the ACC and if they lose a game because of a questionable call they would drop in the rankings, which would hurt the ratings of primetime ACC bball games. What do the yahoo sports fans think about this?

There is proof of this. Just look at the Duke-Clemson game earlier this year and wonder how Duke won that game.

LOL, listen to all the Duke haters chime in. Carolina fans always gotta be able to cry about something, boo hoo.
Of course, they don't wanna mention how Dean actually sent tapes to the refs back in the day to persuade them that Michael Jordan wasn't travelling with the ball.
But that's Carolina fans for ya. If they win, it's because they're so great. If they lose, it's always because they got screwed somehow, not because the other team just outplayed them that game.
Did MJ get calls in the NBA? Does Kobe? Well probably to a slight degree, but that's life.
What about the NBA Western finals with the Kings vs. Lakers when the Lakers were down 15 in the 4th quarter, and the Kings actually got 3 times as many fouls called on them? Are you gonna tell me THAT wasn't fixed?
If there's a perception that a team or program is a winning program, it's just human nature to subconsciously give them the benefit of the doubt from time to time. I don't think it's anything conscious on the part of the refs though...unlike the Kings-Lakers game, which I think had some funny stuff going on in by the refs.

ABSOFRIGGENLUTELY!!!!! Duke has been babied by the refs for 20 years!!! There are two sets of rules. . . those for Duke and those for everybody else!!!! Duke is allowed to camp in the lane forever and they foul on almost every play. Duke and Coack K are both big time overated! Coack K has 12 high school all americans on his roster every year and has not a whole lot to show for it!!! UNLV in 1991 was the best college team ever and the refs handed Duke the semifinal win over them!!! A complete tragedy that was hushed because the NCAA had issued with Jerry Tarkanian. How many Duke alums do anything worth while in the NBA!!! NONE because they dont have the duke jersey to get them special treatment!!! Oh. . and the cameron crazies. . are actually the cameron pains in the butt!!! Nothing but a bunch of jerkoffs who can't let their team win on talent so the act obnoxious and like a bunch of wankers!!! Duke bite the big one and so does coach K!!!!

Against Duke...definitely!!! The always have been. It doesn't help that all the ACC refs are from NC anyway...makes it so much more difficult for teams to play them in their home state. And coach K bends over for them anyway, that's how they have somehow managed to be ranked 17 after a 4 game losing streak!!! I've been following ACC bball for 15 years and I have always thought that!

Why does everyone who drinks the haterade want to blame the REFS for their lack of talent, year in, and year out.
Bottom line: Like it, don't like it, learn to live with it. If you WIN in ACC basketball, the title comes through Duke...and sometimes Carolina!

i think carolina's games are called fairly...however, it seems like every close game at a critical juncture in a big game involving duke goes their way...some of them are scary coincidences, but some of them also appear like the ref was in fact scared to make the call against the dukies
also, i am a carolina fan and i love dick vitale, i just wish he would suck up to duke just a little less

I think Coach K is the biggest baby in the country. He is overrated and the fact that he can't lead the best players in the world to Olympic Gold is proof. The ACC and Dukie Vitale coddle him too much.
