When your child comes home with a date, and they are of a different race than you are, will you accept it? Furthermore, if it becomes serious (i.e. marriage), do you still accept it?

If a person is old enough to date, he/she is also old enough to choose who to date. If my son came home with a date of another race, I would not only accept it - I would think I had done a great job of raising him to be open and nonracist. If it became serious, I most certainly wouldn't have the right to not accept it. By the time a person is old enough to get married, they are old enough to decide who they're going to marry and it's time for us to back off and watch to see what kind of lives they create for themselves.

Yes, and yes again...

Dating outside of your own race has some cultural challenges, and if you would like to force your child into a permanent relationship, you forbid it. With all the other challenges in this generation, taking on cultural challenges won't be a huge draw unless a parent puts his foot down.

If it becomes serious, i.e. marriage, you will want to see your grandchildren and spoil them rotten so they can be a pain in their parents' butts. If you break ties, you won't be able to help or hinder.

Respect your place in the love hierarchy.

Live well~

Hey Mark,

Everyday life changes. If we don't learn to change with it, we will get left behind. Your question alone says that you got left behind years ago. In this day and age having our children come home with a person of a different race is the least of parental worries.
Hoping they don't fall in love with a person of the same sex has since replaced it. Today we just pray that they make it home safely.

When or if you express that you have a problem (concern) with a person of a different race, is the day you tell your child that you are racist. Furthermore, you will teach them that there is a difference in mankind and he/she should identify it, thus making them racist.

When God created us, he create us to be perfect, with fruits of many different shapes, sizes and colors to feast and enjoy. Don't teach them to pick over the fruits ............ they will only end up with no choices.

I understand that it could be of a shock for you, perhaps, if you did not socialise with people of other races before. Perhaps, this is the time when your could be open-minded? And take it step-by-step - no need to panic about marriage yet. When/if the time comes, surely you would accept the person, who loves and makes happy your child?

They in all probability concern teenagers of different races and think of issues like that they have got greater fees of ailments like AIDS, teenage being pregnant, or crime and drug use. once you're taught issues as a youthful newborn that's impossible to unlearn them regrettably. progression is being made however. usa has a black president. extra toddlers at present are being taught to be accepting at college, so according to danger whilst they have toddlers in 30 years they wont study racist techniques. We in basic terms could continuously show anybody that each and one and all races are the two good, and according to danger at some point mum and dad will choose by skill of the content textile of their character and not the colour of their dermis. We owe that to those that've fought so not basic for equality.

Absolutely. I am bi racial. My dad is black and my mom is german. i truly believe that the only way that we will ever truly overcome racism(because it still happens in this day and age)is to be more accepting and to realize that there are bi racial people all around us. We are people that can not be racist. You cant be half black and say that i have a problem with black people nor white people. or any other race for that matter. I love all people. isnt that the way that it should be. Without trying to sound like Dr King shouldt we be judged for who we are solely!

Yes, I definitely will as long as he treats her like the princess that she is :) The most important thing is to see my daughter live a happy life. But that dont mean that I wont look out for her. Of course if it is a big decision like marriage, I would encourage them to learn more about each other's culture/religion (if different) so they each can adapt with each other's families and lifestyles easily.

Everyone is the same equally. If my son/daughter decided that they wanted to date someone outside our nationality, I wouldn't try to stop them. As long as my son/daughter was happy with the person, and their was no physical or emotional harm, thats all that matters. Love comes in every shape/size and color.
