Depending on your lvl, I suggest farming an instance that you can beat with little difficulty. Go to www.auctioneeraddon.com and download the auctioneer and informant mods (they are still legal so far; heard a rumor blizzard was thinking abou tbanning them, but still legal), they'll help you for the next part. You'll scan the auction houses every now and then (1-2 times a day is best), and when you pick up green or blue Bind on Equip items, you can sell them in AH for what they're worth. If you've "seen" the item before with your auctioneer mod, it'll tell you what the item used to sell for, if it's selling now, and how much you should charge to beat competitors prices. It's also a good way of knowing which vendor trash to keep and which to junk. NEVER vendor green or blue BoE items; there are always enchanters who are willing to pay a few silver above vendor price for them. I can't really provide other suggestions, because different items will sell differently on each server. Some good ways to make money are to create alts and have them do herbalism and mining, both of which are hot sellers (especially mining; b/c of the jewelcrafing stuff with burning crusade). Whenever I move to a new server, first thing I do is make a character with herbalism and some other skill (usually tailoring or mining), and make some cash for the character i'm plannign to play the most :)
Hope this helps.

There really isn't a best strategy. You can just walk around and kill things loot them and sell items. Things become more pricy as you kill higher lvl mods.
