This seems odd to me considering that anyone who is in the U.S.A. migrated or descended from other countries

I wouldn't call it xenophobic as much as, um, I suppose redneck would be as good a term as any. This attitude stems from a lack of knowledge about other cultures, about history, about everything. Americans tend to think of culture (in the high-brow European sense) as stupid and that is reflected in their view of movies, and just about everything else. With out education system declining exponentially, I firmly expect my sons' peers to be unable to write a word of English upon exit from high school. There are so many things about America that I am proud of and love, and so many Americans that I wish we could send away.
