Doesn't sound like flirting to me. Teachers will often ask the same student questions, especially if they sit near the teacher or make good grades (hoping that they can generate discussion). I had a teacher in Catholic college who would lecture and walk around the room and very slowly sink down an inch or two so that you couldn't see his feet. Then he'd walk up to a desk where a girl was sitting and step on her feet and play a little "footsie" while asking someone in the back of the class a question. It must've worked because on weekends, he'd be at frat parties in khakis and docksiders and an Izod shirt (we called him the preppy priest) with a cigarette in one hand, a beer in the other hand, and a girl under each arm. Now THAT'S flirting.

It really shouldn't matter. As long as you have the student-instructor relationship there should be no other relationship anyway, though I've broken that rule a few times when it was absolutely clear that there were very strict limits (minor favors, or buying a beer for my instructor AND HER HUSBAND, and even then only after years of knowing each other. Don't overthink the possibilities. The non-fraternization rules are based on others' experience, and as some wag once pointed out, good judgement comes from experience, which often comes from bad judgement.

Reputable dance instructors don't need to flirt with you. They are polite and friendly and fun to work with, but they are not flirty. Ask yourself a honest question: are you actually planning to go out together and have a relationship? Probably no. I think he's just using his flirtiness to get your money because you respond to it well. Trust me, I've seen more than enough of those until I found teachers who teach me to dance. The way I handeled it is I asked for harder material. This is when the truth came out that they can't teach me anything new. By now I surpassed most of my ex-teachers who were flirty with me. It all depends on what you're looking for - date or dancing. Both are valid. After all, all those rules that studios have about no-dating - there is very little they can do to enforce them. (BTW, reputabe studios don't have those rules either, you can date your instructor all you want as long as he wants to date you. This hapens very rarely.) So it is your choise - either this guy who's a potential date but I suspect he's running out of potential as a teacher, or potential new teacher.

I am not sure if you know this. But according to profession ethics there should be no fratenization between a dance teacher and student. Meaning no personal relationship should be involved between teachers and students. It's just like doctors and patients should not have a relationship as it is against ethics. I know how it feels but you should try and refrain yourself from falling for him. It's not easy but with a little self discipline and determination, you will be able to over come it. Good luck.

He was hired to teach you to dance, not to flirt. If he is self employed then it most probably is because it is just his nature to flirt, and you should not read anything into it. Some people are like that, I know I am. I flirt because I enjoy it no other reason. He most probably flirts with all his clients..
He is not getting paid extra monetarily, but he is getting paid extra. by enjoying flirting with his clients. Sure he likes you but only as a person who enjoys teaching to dance, and at the same time flirting.

That's a hard one to call. I think it's very inappropiate for an instructor to flirt with his/ her students. I think an instructor should be encouraging, polite and friendly, but you shouldn't have to decipher his feelings for you. Just keep your head in class and try not to worry about the rest.

I agree with snowflake..... He is losing his professionalism. He's probably flirting with other students too. I have a friend that he's a teacher and he tells me that he flirts with every girl that goes to the studio. So I just think you should ignore him but if you really really think that he's flirtatious ways are true than......
