I have a very random 50 gallon tank. Currently in my tank are:

1 - 7" Rainbow Shark
1 - 3" Knight Goby
1 - 1" Female Swordail (her mates were eaten
1 - 3" Angelfish
3 - 2" Clown Loaches
2 - 4" Pearl Gouramis
6 - 1" Serpae Tetras

I have a lot of bottom dwelling fish. I know that the Knight Goby is a brackish fish, but he has thrived in my tank for well over 2 years now. I refuse to put any barb in my tank, for I have never had barbs that aren't mean. I love Rams, but I worry about them in the same tank as my angel, who is quite peaceful. I'm looking for some more color as well as some movement. Most of my fish are very dorment. Neons seem to last a little while, but the shark eventually gets to them. In the past I've had Diamond Tetras, Rainbow Danios, and Dalmation Mollies. One other option I've had before is Dwarf Gouramis but they seem to be kind of a dorment fish as well. I'm looking for something different, any suggestions? Thank you for your help. (Sorry for the long post)

Thank you for all of your responses. I have been keeping fish for many years, and I'm not a big believer in the 1" per 1 gallon philosophy. But I do respect those who are. It is important to realize my tank is not a typical long rectangle. It is extremely tall and very well covered with rocks and plants. All fish have ample hiding places. I'm not looking to add lots of fish, just looking for 1 or 2 odd/different/not typical fish that you see everywhere. I know my loaches will grow, but with a small bottom area of my tank, their growth should be stunted before they get too big. Thank you so much for your responses!

Personally, I think you're at your limit. You add more, you're asking for either aggression or disease or both. The rainbow shark alone is at its full growth and requires 50 gallons itself. The clown loaches will grow to 12 inches and also need 50 gallons each. Angelfish will grow to 6 inches and need around 30 gallons of water each. And your gouramis are also already at their full growth and need 30 gallons each. I know it's hard to not want more, but for the health and happiness of the fish, we need to know when to say when.

You're going to need to stick with medium sized fish with a 7" shark and 3 angelfish. You know that out in the wild angelfish eat neon tetras, right? (I found that out the hard way). I'm surprised they haven't eaten the swordtail and serpae tetras. More gouramis should be okay, but dwarfs might get picked on. You need to find a big pet shop and look around for ideas. Sometimes you find fish that you'd never normally think about.

You have plenty in your tank now. Those clown loaches will not remain 2" for long. Your angel if it survives will grow quite a bit as well.
Semi-aggressive fish like the rainbow will eat small 1-2" fish...
If you care about the smaller fish, move them to their own tank. You say your tank is very tall, that means poor oxygen exchange. Also 1" to 1 gallon is not a theory, it is a fact. For larger fish (and goldies), more like 1" for 2 gallons.
For compatibility, you can't beat this...

I agree with Venice Girl, you are fairly well at your limit now. While the fish might not get much larger realistically, they will grow and some have lots of growing to do. Start a new tank, maybe a 20 long for some rams or other apistos, great group of fish that you will throughly enjoy keeping and breeding.

get some rainbow fish, docile fish, don't get too big, but as long as you keep up on proper cleaning of your tank you could get away with adding a few more fish. but not too many, want to keep them happy with their personal swimming space.

You actually already have 36 gallons worth of fish in there... I'd get another tank and have fun with it. =)

You're over your limit. Most small colorful fish prefer schools too, not pairs.

I don't reccomend getting any more fish. If you wanna add something, maybe a couple of ghost shrimp but no more fish.
