i dont hate it. I just dont agree with it. I am really gratefull for what black people has fought for and achieved in our comunity, but every other culture has helped also. so i still do not get why should we celebrate a black history month. i mean they wanted to stop racism but by making a month for "black" people is pretty much being racist to every other race. i dont think there shoudl be a anything month. why not a "multiculture month" so everyone could feel proud of where they come from. i am not racist at all. i mean i have black family members. but im spanish. anyways, i dislike every other month that celebrates one culture. its very racist for every other culture.

Did you know there is also a Hispanic, Native American, German, and Jewish American Heritage months? Is it racist to have a german heritage month? We are not trying to be racist, but certain groups are ignored and misrepresented in history. I almost majored in history, and I can tell you that American history is very ethno-centeric. It focuses on Europe and the experience of the European settlers who came to this country. American history says very little about Native Americans who occupied this country before the settlers came, or the slaves who helped build it. It says little about other races in general. So by having black history month, we are not saying we a re superior, or trying to discriminate against others. We are simply choosing that month to celebrate our history and what we have contributed to this country.

Just pick up a high school history book and tell me how much is written about blacks, and other non-europeans. In my text book, there were five paragraphs. But we are Americans too. So until textbooks are rewritten to include all americans, we will have a month to celebrate those who feel over looked.

BTW, January and December are not taken. If you feel your cultural backround is being ignored, contact your local politician, get a petition started, and create a month to celebrate your history. BLack history month wasn't just handed to us, and we didn't get it by sitting around complaining about being ignored. We had to get off our asses and demand that people pay attention. I suggest you do the same.

I love the idea of a multicultural month! It would promote the important notion of accepting people from various racial and ethnic backgrounds. However, I am not against black history month, but I strongly feel that other races and ethnicities should be celebrated as well. For example, what about celebrating Native Americans, Asian Americans, Mexican Americans, Latin Americans, European Americans...the whole lot!!! I think we need to think of each other as fellow human beings who belong to the same race, that is, the human race.

I agree that it should be a day for all ethnic group, you can't celebrate a race since we, all humans are only one race, doesn't matter the color, nationality, language, etc, but we have to consider that at least they have one month after years of slavery, that's the reason why we should stick together to make a whole month for all nationalities and color that help to built this great nation and help to assure us the freedom we are enjoying today. America was built on the blood and sweat of many people from different nationalities: Hispanic-Americans, English men, Afro-Americans, Indians, Hispanics, French, Asians, Germans, Dutches and all of them should be respected as an important of this great country, perhaps the whole hemisphere indeed.

No. I don't hate it. If schools didn't wait until February every year to teach a little bit of my ancestors history... then there would be no need for it.
And yes... pretty much every race has a History Month.

February- Black History

March- Greek-American Heritage Month & Irish-American Heritage Month

May-Asian Pacific American History Month &Jewish-American Heritage Month

September- National Hispanic Heritage Month

October- German-American Heritage Month & National Italian-American Heritage Month & Polish-American Heritage Month

November- National American Indian Heritage Month

And no... its not racist. Celebrating and learning about your heritage does not mean that you dislike other cultures. Maybe you need to learn the definition of racism.

Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, American Jewish History Month, German-American Heritage Month and Polish American Heritage along with countless other "Months" exist. For some strange reason people tend to think that Black History Month is the only "Month" that exist (as proven in your question). Come on people. I'm sue that a "Month" exist for everyone.

I agree with you. I think that the teaching of American history should naturally encompass all of the contributions made by its people. That way, we will all be more aware of the true history of all who walk on this land today and we won't need to just do it one time per year because it would be a part of us.

Well alot of people don’t understand that Africans do not have much of a history at all. Most of there past was spread orally and there are not many writings detailing there past. They do not have much history so every little bit should be cherished. I also agree that it is not fair but anything promoting the teaching of history I fully support.

You have never been black! If you were you would understand the complete and total disrespect and unjust way society treats blacks! They are subject to cruelty, dishonor, prejudice, suspicion on a daily basis! They are the one people who have and do suffer the most! This is a fact weather you or anyone else chooses to believe it or not! Black people are the most beautiful people in the world and deserve this holiday and a whole lot more!!!!!
