First it was the 78th Academy Awards, with "Brokeback Mountain", movies about tolerance, and a gangster rap group edifying pimping -- which won "Best Song."

Now its the 79th Academy Awards, with Al Gore whining about pollution, movies like "Jesus Camp" bashing Christians, and a host that's going to Hell when she dies. Are we seeing the start of a trend?

@Erica: Is the tired old " year" argument the only thing you have, or do you actually have anything rational to rebut my question with?

Oops, misjudged the character limit and I thought I had to copy the entire question over again.

Dramas usually do center around socially controversial themes look at these Oscar nominees that caused controversy...this ain't new.

1960- Inherit The Wind (creation vs evolution)
1915- Birth of a Nation (KKK portrayed as heroes)
1956- Baby Doll (pedophilia)

You are essentially correct, but it has been 'coming' for a very long time...not just the last few years. Also, they didn't even have the Academy Awards until 1927...so "Birth of a Nation" never was an Oscar contender, nor was it controversial when it was made! And "Babydoll" was not about pedophilia...that character was an adult woman who only slept in an old crib because they were dirt poor!

Hollywood movies are money making machines. Period. Any film maker that claims s/he made a film to "make a difference" or because "this story needed to be told" ought to be ashamed of themselves. Making millions in the guise of a so-called moral lesson or social wake-up call... the nerve! I go to the movies to be entertained. I don't pay $10 per film to get preached to. If someone has something to say, let them do it for free.

I was hoping Al Gore would win and his documentry did! I think the awards are much to long and give awards to things I never heard of.

I sure do hope you're a troll, but I wouldn't be surprised if you're not.

I think it's good. Granted I don't particularly want celebs preaching at me, but at least some of them are using their status to help reach others.

The radical platform is fine, the rest of the show is degenerating.
