you don't have to take iron pills. Your pre natal vitamins should have enough iron in them.
If your worried about iron, eat iron rich food like: broccoli, brussle sprouts and red meat.

no, you dont have to take iorn when you are pregnant but it is recommended. (the ones in the prenatal pills should give you enough that your body needs)
During pregnancy, your iron requirements go up significantly. First of all, your blood volume expands until you have almost 50 percent more blood than usual, so you need more iron to make more hemoglobin. You also need extra iron for your growing baby and placenta. Most women start their pregnancies without sufficient stores of iron to meet their body's increased demands — especially in the second and third trimesters — and are unable to bring their levels up through diet alone.
The recommended amount for pregnant women is 27 milligrams (mg) a day, substantially more than the 18 mg a day you needed before you conceived.
You can get it from food too. Unless you're a vegetarian, red meat is one of your best sources of iron while you're pregnant.
Check with your doctor to determing what you requirements should be

I personally was unable to take the iron in the prenatals there was too much and it totally constipated me. So uncomfortable. My doc gave me pills with out the iron and I just upped the iron rich foods I ate.

Its something you should talk to your doctor or midwife about.
If you become anaemic during pregnancy the complications it can cause far outweigh the inconvenience of remembering to take an iron tablet every morning.(such as feeling even tireder than pregnancy already makes you, and putting your life at more risk during labour, especially if something goes wrong)
There is also such thing as too much iron though, the safest thing to do is ask your doctor if its necessary for you to take it and in what dose.

It isn't compulsory; both mother and baby can get through pregnancy fine without. It is often recommended though as the mother is prone to anaemia during pregnancy what with the baby using up the iron stores.

i was anemic with both of my pregnancies so my doctor did perscribe me extra iron pills. I don't think it would have been neccesary if i was not anemic.

No I don't think so unless your Dr. recommends that you need them because you are lacking iron.

No, only if your Dr. reccomends or prescribes them for you. Prenatal vitamins have some iron in them. That should be sufficient enough!
