Set a password your roommates would not guess, take a vital part out of the p.c so it does not run but don't tell your roomies. If you live near someone you trust, disconect the tower and let them keep it while you are gone.

Depends on what you mean by secure. You could just disable any logins that your roommate has. If you think they know your login information, change your password. If you have any shared directories, you'll want to unshare them too. Now that will secure from normal login/access attempts but if they have physical access to the system, they can still hack into it. They could pull the hard disk and mount it into another computer as a slave drive (unless of course you've encrypted the disk). Presumably they wouldn't go that far but if you really want to secure it, lock it up somewhere safe.

This is a fun question I do it to my little brother all the time... Just go into the bios and setup an admin password and set bios to ask for password prior to boot...
Have fun...
Can do the same in windows and they couldnt get in but a freak out about a black screen that only says password is much more fun... Peace...

Set an ecrypted password on windows sign in screen without them knowing anything.. make sure that all shared files etc are secured.that even goes for shared printer etc..... better yet, unplug the monitor cord(if possible)unplug tower cord(take it with you)etc... if your connection is through router... block any connections securely.. cause they still can try and hack from another means of internet..... hope this all works for ya .. good luck!!!!

nothing's fool proof.
What you can do is put a password on it and shut it down.
What I like to do is remove the power cord, keyboard, and mouse before I go and take it with me. Also I change my password (one that will take them days to figure out). But that's what I do. But what I do might be a little over kill for most people. But it kept my room mates off my PC while I was gone.

The best way I can think of is to remove the hard drive and hide it somewhere they can't find it. (but don't let it get too warm, cold, damp, or vibrated of course.) You could even take it with you, but that would probably increase the chance it would get damaged.

Put a password on the opening screen, when it is starting up.
Make sure it is something that they cannot guess at.

you could take the power cord and/or the monitor cord. or you could set it so your account needs a password in order to log on to the user
