A membrane is just a term for tissue that creates a gradiant between an environment. For example, people do get oxygen and water from our envrionment through our skin and do aspirate CO2 and water, among other chemicals, through skin. Thus this is a membrane for some sort of exchange between differnt gradiants. It is an organ because it does many metabolic functions, such as make Vitamin D, create pigment that protects us from the Sun, and allow for heat exchange (among other things). So thus its Organ traits.

For the same reason that an apple can be a plant and a fruit. Being a membrane has nothing to do with being an organ. All an "organ" is is a differentiated structure consisting of cells and tissues and performing some specific function in an organism. Skin consists of cells and tissues. It performs a function in people. It is an organ. Being a membrane as well is irrelevant to the fact it is an organ.

Its a membrane because it is made up of cells that connect and stay connected.

It is an organ because it has a biological function. The skin's is to exchange a certain amount of air, keep our temperature regulated, and by preventing infections. Another function of skin is to tell us to keep away from something because it is dangerous to us by producing pain. An example of this is our skin along with our nervous system will hurt easier when it comes to fire than our inner organs would.

Of course! A membrane is just an outer covering. An organ is a living thing, skin is both.

It is a membrane for your flesh and bone, but also an organ as a whole. As part of your whole body, because its main role is pertection and nothing else shares its role.

Like the heart, none other organ shares its role as an organ to pump blood around.

its an organ because your sking has cells that are living and dead, the works as a ground and thats why they are an organ., every cell has a nucleous.. thing,. so they know what to do., same thing with skin, if u burn yourself they would know what happen bcz they work together to get that info to the brain., so ther all happy! :P
