Most Western nations have some socialist institutions as apart of their government structure - to appease the bleeding hearts fo the world....

However, the main socialist nations - nations which subscribe to the socialist style of government include - not limited to - China, North Korea and Cuba. Many nations claim to be capitalists but have a far more socialist style then other capitalist states - such as Canada and England.

The ideals behind using socialism is that the government will protect the citizens and provide the citizens with everything they need - whilst allowing them the opportunity to gain the things they want.

So what you get is :

Government privides needs - Food, clothing, shelter and security

Government requires citizens to - work to enable economic conditions to provide citizens needs

Government allows citizen to work harder to buy the plasma screen tv.

Thats how it should work - in a simplified way. It never does though because humans are greedy - whilst one or two humans arent as a race we are REALLY greedy...

Hope this helps.
