Please understand something. Mr Romney was a Bishop in his church.
This is not the same as a bishop in lets say the Catholic Church. It means he was elected leader in his local church for a period of time, usually a year. All worthy Mormon men are members of the Aaronic
Priesthood. It is just an appointed position.
Now do I agree that Church leaders can run for public office...yes and I wish more would. However I have no problem with an Atheist running for office either. While I don't agree with Mormon beliefs, most understand that their communities are clean, safe, and the people are well educated.
Mitt's dad, George, was a very popular governor in Michigan for years and Mitt is well educated in government affairs. As a Republican he was able to bridge the gap in a very liberal state like Massachusetts, and get things done. His religion should be no factor when considering him for President.

I believe there is a Catholic Priest that is a member of the House of Representatives. He is the house chaplin. Other ministers and various clergy have served in the legislator. Jimmy Carter taught Sunday School even when he was President. While he was not a minister he served his God and his nation. He kept his religion personal as it should be.
So why not? If they are otherwise qualified like any other American citizen they could run.

How do you know they aren't any already in office? I bet there are a few, someone just didn't make a point to tell you about it because it didn't benefit them at the time.
As long they unhold the Constitution and do their job it's not a problem. You can't stop someone from applying for a job just because of their religion.

Yes. First Amendment says so.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Barring them from office would violate this.

Absolutely not! We must always bear in mind that this country is founded upon the separation of church and state.

Except for Catholic priests, because the Pope said they can't
