I have a band teacher(woman) who is new to teaching band and sorry to say it but...she sucks at teaching...Anytime i ask her for help on a note she says find it yourself or practice it...then she gets mad when i do it wrong...she said if i need help, just ask, but HELLO!!!!!...why would i even bother asking for help if every time i ask her she says the same thing! My old band director was a EXPERT and was very into what he does. And plus she gives us crappy music to play. She just not "band teacher" material

The phrase "Those that can't do...teach" comes to mind.

Maybe you can ask her for suggestions on how to find the note. If she still can't help you, you might try talking to the principal or your guidance counselor. If the other band teacher is there, maybe you can change classes. If not, maybe someone in charge can speak with the new one and find out what the problem is. She might just be new to teaching and not really sure how to help you. You might be helping her by showing her that her suggestions aren't working and why but do it in a nice way. You might even consider bringing in some music that you find more interesting and seeing if she'll add that to the class. Show some initiative and help her be a better teacher and you'll both win (and so with the others in the band). Good luck.

My first suggestion would be to maintain your composure when asking for help. Try to keep your frustration in check and remain respectful. By controlling your reactions to her, it will show her that you are serious about your music.

In the meantime, I agree with speaking with someone that can speak with her for you. I would start with your guidance counselor and ask her or him not to mention your name when discussing the situation with the band teacher. Maybe the problem can be discussed with her using the excuse that several parents of band students have complained...

If that does not work, I would probably talk with your parents to let them know of the situation before you speak with the principal. The principal may want to speak with them before the teacher and it would be much better if they were aware of the situation ahead of time.

No situation is impossible. The teacher may not change her ways, but you still have the option of getting help with the music from others, other students, other teachers, maybe even someone in your community with musical talent.

Never give up in frustration and good luck!

she is youre teacher, so i dont think facing her and telling her how much she sucks will help. trying to have a friendly conversation will not help either, because she is youre teacher and she will always think she knows best. so anyway, youre screwed.

go to your principle and explain this to him/her. Maybe they will get you a new band teacher or straighten this one out. wow she sounds annoying.
