Your question is based on a false premise. People don't hate the military, they hate the war.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that 6 years of war with no end in sight is not a good thing for a country. The American public does not hate the military, as a country we will stand behind our troops, but when we see billions of dollars that seems wasted over seas, it is the right and obligation of the American people to say something about it. Democracy demands it, free speech demands it, everything that make us American demands that we say something.

The dislike is towards the war, and not the military, i would go as far as the say that the US would not be without our military, nor will it be able to last without it. All that we can do is support and love them... This is a far cry from the "hate" that you mention in your question.

In my opinion the public dont hate the military, but their is a big difference between military==the regular army and the researves. 99.9% of the time when there's a problem the regular army takes care of business.---But for the last 59 years the researve goes to boot camp one weekend(weekend warriors) And just goes to meetings. They get paid and for 59 years buys at military prices and does nothing. Now The president is useing them in Iraq. Now that their away from home more than 8 months theirs relatives are crying, for 59 years it was OK.,. Evidently they want alquida over here

Not everybody hates the military. It's only the people who have a voice, and they all seem to be Dems. Those of us who support the Military and our troops are never seen on CBS evening news with Katie Couric or on The View. Why? Because the media tries to make the War look like it is the worst thing on the planet next to the President. Don't get me wrong, war is horrible. But the people who serve our country aren't. And the people who support them should have their 15 minutes of fame instead of those pompous windbags.

It's possible to hate the war but love the warrior! Especially when it's been waged by a bunch of oil-thirsty chickenhawks who have no personal stake in the matter. I consider our fighting men and women to be one of the most abused resources our country has right now....sent off to war with poor intelligence, no leadership, false pretenses ("you'll be greeted with open arms and flowers", "the insurgency is in its final throes", "we're just now turning the corner", etc.) and insufficient armor and weaponry! 8 helicopters have gone down in the last 4 weeks, all by enemy fire. Why the President thinks the current plan he's been having -- plus a "surge" -- is a good one makes even ME feel like a tacticial genius!

Well, the vast majority of people lack the intellectual depth to recognize and comprehend the vast complexities of a war. They simplify it down to fundamental concepts and ideals like, "It's about oil!" or, "It's about killing terrorists and loving freedom!"

Once people have this shallow idea of what a war is about, they think they have all the answers.

I don't think the American public hates the military. I think the vast majority of Americans "support the troops, not the war." Most people love the military so much that they want them to come home, only fighting when Americans are truly in danger.

the reason that it could seem that maximum human beings hate them is that frequently the main ignorant persons are the loudest in a crowd. returned and returned it occurs that extremely ignorant and bitchy specific interest communities scream fairly loud over the overpowering majority, and consequently this u . s . a . has such various stupid regulations. yet come on, in case you lived in a rustic that hated its squaddies you won't see neighborhoods with yellow ribbons on trees and the independence days could in basic terms be a million/2 as loud. i think of ever when you consider that vietnam public opinion has shifted from thoroughly anti armed forces to a minimum of something like 'hate conflict, yet love the yankee soldier'. in case you opt for a rustic it is detached approximately its armed forces seem at germany. i became into taken aback that they are no longer patriotic and supportive of their troops like the U. S. and Russia are.

So, are you saying that people who have never served in the military, like George Bush and Dick Cheney, shouldn't have a say in how a war should go???

The American public does not hate the military, it's just a few highly vocal left wingnuts.

Would you mind providing a source for your statement about the American public hating the military?

I don't believe that you could be more wrong.

I have never served(one of my regrets).I'm 41 now and after living in the 60s generation, watching Vietnam growing up on TV,and being at the end of the peace flower children era(people whom at my time of growing up I wanted to emulate) I woke up and realized the truth about things and the world.I realized their is no quick fix,and you gain nothing without sacrifice.I would go to Iraq if they would let me,you see when I was growing up there was the same sentiment that the military was bad, after living in the shadow of the left,I realized that they know nothing about nothing, since Reagan I have learned(I was in high school during his presidency) and though he stood against my lifestyle at the time(SEX
