I'm interested in hearing if anyone tries to live by a philosophy that is not associated with the dogma of an organized religion i.e. Nietszche's (sp?) "Will to Power" philosophy

I pretty much didn't have any kind of outlook on life when i was a teenager, till i was in a car accident.
Broke my back, leg, pelvis. just to name a few.
Will power - or as i call it my pig headedness.
I didn't want to give in. Part of me wanted to prove everyone wrong.
everyone telling me at 17 i had destroyed my life and that i will have to live with this all my life..

So my will power, or pig headed ness. got me back on my feet when they told me i wouldn't walk.
After that they told me i would be back in a wheel chair by 40
So i went out and thought, right, i have a life.. lets make as many mistakes as i can before 40.
At least if I'm back in a wheelchair i can say i lived my life to the fullest.

Now I'm 38 - still going strong with a few limps and well im still proving them wrong.
Maybe i slowed down the wild ways and maybe realized a few eye opening situations along the way.

My Philosophy now is to enjoy who i am, where i go and how i overcome obstacles that lay in front of me. Be small or large.
Emotional or Physical.
Happiness, fullfillment, enjoyment is what i make of it. No one can give it to me.
I have to do it for myself.

I like the Momentary or Middle Way , we are born we live, and hope I leave it a happier place than I woke to. Siddhãrtha had some good ideas.
But so did Douglas Adams.

Don't regret anything, because at one point it was what you wanted.
Dont let the little things upset you, let it go. They're bound to happen and theres nothing you can do about them most of the time.
Worrying about something usually ends up worrying for no reason....things tend to work themselves out.
Everything happens for a reason.
What comes around goes around.

As regards those around me, to show them a measure of sympathy and respect - until such time as they prove themselves unworthy of it, becuase few of us are that far from living in a cardboard box or a homeless shelter.

As regards myself, to enjoy as much of life's sensual joys as possible while I still have good health, while taking care of the well being and satisfaction of my wife.
