I have been hearing alot lately that African americans should get an apology for slavery and segregation. My question, who do you want this apology from? The government? Of which many are black? The people? Ok I am sorry, granted I am only 24 and had nothing to do with slavery or the government of the 60's, along with the majority of americans today, So I guess that leaves the very few people who are old enough to have actualy made laws or been in the government of the 60' I think that would put them around 80 something good luck finding them if any are still alive.

I had nothing to do with slavery. Neither did my parents. Nobody I know had anything to do with slavery or with segregation. We do not owe anybody an apology or reparations or anything else over something that happened before we were born.

If you want an apology or reparations, go back to the tribes and villages that sold your ancestors into slavery in the first place. They are the ones you should be looking too. And if you feel you have it so bad here, have you ever considered returning to your roots where life was better and free?

For those that want the apologies or reparation, look up what a very wise man said as advice to you. His name is Bill Cosby. He was absolutely right in all aspects.

You can call me racist if you like but my wife and kids are all part black. You'd be dead wrong. I just have no sympathy for self pitying whiners.

My parents are in their 80's but they owe no one an apology. They are good non racist people and trying to get people like this to apologize is antagonistic. The people who should apologize have long since been dead. And if they could be found don't you think they should apologize to the people it actually had a bearing on back then? These people need to loose the chip. So easy to blame whites for keeping them down when whites, being the majority, have consistently been changing laws over the years to help all minorities. Sheesh! I'm kind and considerate to all races but I won't get on my knees because I don't belong there.

I don't believe that ANYONE who owned, traded or otherwise directly involved in the slave trade is alive today. The laws were changed which makes it illegal to "Own" or to be involved in any type of slavery of any race of humans. Even those who outlawed "slavery" are doubtfully alive. NOR are any "slaves" alive today

Everyone really needs to get over it and move on. everyone today has the ability to make their life what they want as well as educate themselve to and beyond the level of doctor if they choose....

the declaration of independence says: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

It appears that the State of Virginia is going to do just that. Everyone who lives in this country benefits from wealth generated by slaves for slave owners. That wealth exists today. It has long since passed through many different hands but it is still there. I see nothing wrong with an apology. Seems Virginia does think so as well.

My heart goes out to those who had to live through those times, but I can't apologize for things I had nothing to do with. Just as I would not expect the family of someone who murdered a family member of mine some years ago to apologize to me now. I think this whole issue has been hashed and rehashed way too many times. It is time to heal and get on with life and stop putting the blame of others mistakes on everyone else.

Where would you rather be living? Africa or America? The lucky ones even got to live in the Carribean, too. Huh, I think they ought to pay for their tickets, now they have the money to do so. I'm sorry, I am in no way racist, it is just that this whole argument stinks. Slavery happened 2-400 years ago, forget it, move on, feel lucky - as MLK said - ''You don't need to see the whole staircase, just as long as you can take the next step, that is the only important thing in life.'' (Or something like that.)

considering every nationality,creed, race has been a slave at some time of another since the beginning of man, PEOPLE, move on ! stop looking for handouts & apologies ! PEOPLE are creepy and rude at times, it's no secret !
WE STILL HAVE MILLIONS OF SLAVES IN THE WORLD,most are ASIAN NOT BLACKS.... i don't hear the asians whining about wanting an apology ! GEESH Obabubu

those who kept the slaves should apologies to those who were kept as slaves. the rest of us need to get on with out lives.
