A medical degree is an MD, the typeof Dr. you go to when you are sick. A Ph.D is a doctorate degree where you (in a biomedical engineer) can do research on new drugs, medical equipment like pacemakers and other medical testing. A PhD cannot write prescriptions and they are generally involved in research of some type. The do NOT take care of sick patients as they are not Medical Dr.s.

It would be a Ph.D. Biomedical engineers aren't medical doctors.
