i own the movie, and it is excellent! seeing it in theatres was awesome because you really get the full effect when the madness breaks out. but even so, watching it at home - it's still really good.

I saw it and didn't think much of it, especially compared to CHICAGO and DREAMGIRLS. It was also a critical flop--Rottentomatoes.com, which gathers critical reviews from all media, gave it a 33%, with 107 out of 159 rotten reviews.
Some words the critics used to describe it: "gaudy," "syrupy," "interminable," "kitschy," "stupefying." It made $51 million at the box office and disappeared after 19 weeks; it's budget was an estimated $60 million, which makes it a box office flop.
Compare that to CHICAGO, which cost $45 million to make and pulled in $170 million at the box office. Rottentomatoes got an 86% rating, with only 28 negative reviews out of 208. DREAMGIRLS got a 79% rating, with 38 negatives out of 180 total reviews (box office: $70 million budget, $92.7 million gross to date).

I have never seen it but my husband has seen. Whenever a friend ask he tells them to go watch it live. So if you are able to go to the theater you would enjoy it more. Hope that helps!
