Kipchiris Earns NCTCA All-Academic Status
Four Coastal Carolina University Track and Field Athletes were honored on the National Collegiate Division I Track Coaches Association 2004 All-Academic Track and Field Team. As a team, Head Coach Alan Connie’s women’s squad was ranked 12th in the entire country with a team grade point average of 3.27.
Among those honored individually was junior distance runner Terah Kipchiris (Kitale, Kenya/Saboti Secondary (Kenyatta) for his 3.648 GPA from last year earning CoSIDA Second Team Academic All American. Kipchris is majoring the field of psychology and is coming off a season in which he was named Outstanding Track Performer in the Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship by winning the triple crown 5,000 meter run, 10,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter steeple chase. The junior also was named team MVP for cross country and outdoor track last season, breaking the school’s 5,000- meter mark and the conference’s 3,000 steeplechase records last season. He also won the title of Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year for the past two seasons in the Big South Conference.
