Well first of all I would sugest that you look into lessons. Any resort that you go to should have snowboard lessons. I learned on my own because I'm more the type that prefers to learn stuff on my own. I actually did take a lesson but got left behind. ( won't go into that..lol) But I wouldn't reccomend that you try to teach yourself. Lessons would be best. Actually I spent a few years reading books on snowboarding and I watched videos and stuff so that helped a lot. You might want to do that before you go. Start trying to visualize the moves in your head.
I would not reccomend that you buy any equipment before you decide that you want to continue in snowboarding. I'd give myself a bit of time to decide. Snowboarding equipment is VERY expensive so don't buy it unless you are very sure you want to do this. You will probably spend between $200 and 500 (or even more depending on the brand, quality) for a board. For bindings ( they hold the boots in place on the board) you'll spend between $100 and about $300 ( again it depends on the brand and quality) then for the boots between $50 and $200 ( could even be more) Now let me just give you some advice on boots. You could have the most crappy board ever and if you have great boots you would be fine. The boots aren the most important part of the whole package. If the boots aren't good quality and aren't comfortable you will be miserable. Trust me..when I first started out I rented everything and I got sooo tired of using rental boots because they were sh-it. Get good boots...you'll be glad you did. When you buy your equipment go to a snowboard/ski shop and the people there should be able to give you all the advice you need and they should be able to point you to the right equipment. Once you figure out what style of riding you want to do you'll want to get the right board for it. I know it sounds complicated but don't fret. Right now just focus on learning. Take lessons, rent until you make a desicion. When you go make sure you wear comfortable and warm, water proof snowboard pants and jacket.
Well good luck...Snowboarding is a great sport. I'm very passionate about it as you can see. I hope everything goes well and have fun!!!

Snowboarding is a wonderful and very easy to get started. The cost varies depending on where you go. Most major resorts in the US are about $60 and up while smaller resorts are about $45 and up. This is the price of the lift ticket which will take you up (down if necessary) the mountain for the entire day. You also need to rent equipment which includes a board and boots. Again, this varies but the average is about $30 per day. If you are a begginner, I would recommend a beginner's package that most resorts offer. This includes a limited access lift ticket which means you can only go on certain parts of the mountain (fine for beginners), board and boot rental, and a 2 hour lesson. This package normally runs you about $65 and up.
I wouldn't worry too much about training. Just make sure you are in decent shape...do some cardio as you will be huffing and puffing on top of that mountain.
Good Luck and have fun!!!!

One starts snowboarding by first gathering buddies of similar interest and taking a day trip to a nearby mountain.
For a first time,
Get the beginner lift ticket that comes packaged with a group lesson. Definitely take a 1 or 2hr lesson on the day and then do your own stuff for the remainder of the day
If you expect that you'll be making return trips to the snow later on, then go ahead and buy snow clothes (jacket, pants, gloves, beanie - all waterproof of course) from a sports/snowboard shop. At this point in time, you can buy cheapish stuff but of good quality.
Hire the Boards and boots from a rental shop (can be found off mountain or on mountain - on mountain usually more expensive, however if problem with gear then can easily go exchange. off mountain usually cheaper and less damaged stuff)
No real training necessary at the beginning, just make sure your leg muscles are not really weak as you need to be able to push on them a bit. unless you are obese, then your regular fitness and physique should be fine.
The cost of snowboarding is ok at the beginning, but later on when you start going every week or whenever you can get away from work, the cost of snowboarding becomes pretty expensive for a hobby. All the gears and lift tickets and petrol and accommodation .... not cheap
Oh yeah .... snowboarding IS fun

snowboarding can cost a lot of money but it just depends on wat equipment that you get and stuff like that. for the gear just a nice ski jacket, and a pair of wool socks and a pair of water proof ski pants to go over your jeans so you don't freeze. And the cost would depend on the mountain your going to and the rental cost. I think it's easier to rent first obviously and take a few lessons just to get your body used to the motion because you really don't want to pick up bad habits. I hope this helped have fun!

The cost depends on what quality of the resort, equiptment, etc. But you defidently want a good jacket, waterproof pants, gloves, goggles, etc. And i suggest RENTING the board and boots your first time to make sure you like it. The resorts offer lessons, so just buy them there.
