I am interested in becoming a third grade teacher or a registered nurse. I have found a nursing program that is about 2 years in length. I would like to find a similar length program for teaching.

Any Ideas?

Not a credible one. The ONLY way you could even hope to accomplish becoming a teacher in 2 years is if you already hold a bachelors degree in another field. Then you can go for your Masters of Education and you may be able to get that in 2 years + practical experience. But if this is your first degree, no chance.

Also, depending where you are in the country, nursing programs typically have a very long waiting list and only admit people that already have a 2 year Associates degree. That's just been my experience.

Listen to CT she's setting you straight. I think another thing to ask yourself is why you want to teach since you seem to dislike school so much. Trust me it's one of the hardest and lowest paid jobs in the country. NYC offers a professional to teacher program where they tried to recruit people out of offices and 3/4 dropped after one year. That should let you know something. It's a very hard job with very, very long hours. You don’t get 'summers off' you have to work somewhere else to make ends meet or take classes that you have to pay for to keep your job. Everyone disrespects you as well – look at what the other posters here are saying about teachers. I might add that it is a step up from McDonalds but a lot of the people that teach are doing it for that reason - they fake a foreign degree or credentials and then they get in there and don’t know anything. So if you have a real degree it is a pain and a grind, and if you’re faking you’re a terrible teacher. I mean ask yourself- do you want to work all night making handouts and lesson plans? Do you want to come in and babysit all day, answer questions like "why is the sky blue?" (and the kids will tell you you’re stupid), then have everyone say you have an easy job? DO you want to grade all weekend, do inservice days over vacation, and then have to scrounge for summer employment to pay your rent? I mean if you think its sitting in a room and everyone loves you and you love kids and you know everything let me set you straight - you have to put somethign in your head before you can know anything (that’s why its 6+ years of school after your HS diploma) and kids can usually tell when you're BSing, and most of the work in teaching happens Outside of the classroom - the classroom work is the fun/easy part. Teachers work a 12 hour day, 7 days a week, 52 a year. Most of the cool things in class you have to pay for out of your salary – like crayons. And when was the last time you saw a teacher drive off in a lexus to have a power lunch with friends? If you teach HS you can’t even go to the bathroom and leave your class unattended. Then all it takes to end your career and make you penniless, and homeless is one kid decides to make up a lie and 'get you in trouble' because you busted them for cheating etc. Or maybe there are budget cuts – then you’re out of a job and broke. Think real hard about all the things people did to teachers in your school, think about how often you saw them, and how they dressed and lived. Then go be a nurse.

It is not possible to have a teaching degree in 2 years. Teaching is a very important thing and it needs lots of subjects to take. Probably it takes 3 or 4 years depending on your country.

I guess that depends on whether or not you already have some prior college experience. I don't know of any two year teaching programs that are available for students who have only a high school diploma, but there are programs like that for people who already have a bachelor's degree, especially if your degree is in a high need area like math or science.

ASU West in AZ has a fast track teaching program. It's one year straight, no breaks, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. Very grueling and you basically have no other life for a year
