Nothing to be overly alarmed about, but I would mention it to your doctor. Are you eating enough protein? It may be from either a dietary or vitamin deficiency. Also, every 3 months is way too much. Eventually, that kind of rigorous perm schedule will ruin your hair. Remember, the beauty salon will say it's OK just because they want your business (perms aren't cheap!) ~ but a doctor will have your health and best interest at heart in helping you figure what's going on with your hair. Good luck!

You don't have to perm your hair like many Black women think. Once you do get in permed, use oil sheens, tie or wrap it up at night. You could flat iron it at least once a week. And don't wash it too much, because the water and shampoo cause breakage when combing your hair. People think washing your hair a lot prevents dandruff, but it develops regardless. Washing your hair daily causes lice, lice love clean scouts. If you grease your hair, only apply it to the scout so that it doesn't make your hair thick. I've been getting my hair down for 5 years now by my hair dresser, and she can tell you. I've had long hair since the 5th grade. It's been broken off because of too many chemicals like perms and shampoos. It's been fine now since my sophomore year. I'm now 20 and my hair still grows. I know we Black women think it's difficult to take care of out hair, but it isn't. If you so happen to go swimming, don't threat, wait for your hair to dry and straighten it. Trust, you don't have to do much.

Try not perming for a while. Chances are your hair is breaking off at the ends from damaged hair (split-ends and dried out, over-processed hair). Check Sally Beauty Supply for a leave-in moisturizer for Black Hair. My sister who is adopted is black and she swears by Pink Oil Moisturizer. Her hair is long and reaches her mid-back. She gets it straightened when new growth comes out more than 2 inches and she doesn't wash her hair everyday when she showers. She wears a shower cap and washes her hair twice a week to keep it from drying out.

i believe that everyone's hair can grow to whatever length they desire, yet it just takes time and care. are you washing and conditioning you hair every two weeks? is it moisturized good? this could possibly stop any breaking. maybe you should consider perming your hair every 6-8 weeks or change your perm. try to go natural. sometimes all the chemicals aren't good for our hair. give your hair a break and braid it for a while. what ever you decide to do, just make sure that it is moisturized. that is the key!

A good question for your hairdresser...let her know you've had the same style for many years now and you want something that is easy to take care of but looks great on you*

black people do not have hair that grows long, because it's nappy it grows into a afro, if you straighten it out, it will look longer. it's just your genetic makeup, black hair does not grow long.
