NO! It's totally an old wives tale! Otherwise, ob nurses and female ob would have to quit all together! What? You didn't notice that when you were on your period or newly pregnant that you lost the physical ability to hold a baby?

I think you will find this falls under some obscure old wives tale...I cant remember the exact one but I do remember there is one that says if your trying to have a baby you should hold a newborn....and now I think of it I think there is also one about if a pregnant woman holds a baby it can bring on the labour....but think about it - after a woman gives birth and her periods start up again...how is she supposed to look after her baby if it doesnt harm? Or if you have two children close together and your holding your first born while pregnant with your second? See.....doesnt make sense!

wait do you mean HOLD your baby? not carry as in carry in their womb? it was a confusing question the first time but i think i might get what you mean now.. no, a person with their period or a pregnant woman holding your baby is not going to cause harm to it.. sounds like a crazy old wives tale???? who the heck told you that?

It sounds like one of those traditions with roots in the "female essence" or "female power" beliefs... Like if a woman was pregnant, her womb (or her fetus) would draw from the baby's lifesource, possibly killing the baby or stealing its soul. Same with a menstruating woman-- her reproductive essence would draw from the baby's, possibly destroying it to create a new life in the woman's womb.

Interesting, certainly, but not true.
