This is my first answer.. so bear with me... I remember seeing a Herman Li video on youtube about how to make certain noises on the guitar...

Basically you turn the volume off. Now, pick a string, and then turn the volume up and crank the whammy bar at the same time. The harder you pull on the whammy bar the higher pitched the elephant squeel will go.

Stuff like "Elephant Talk" from King Crimson's album "Discipline" is the sound of Adrian Belew playing a fretless guitar.
He's used it in his solo stuff too, I remember a song called "Big Electric Cat".

Dudes name is Robert Fripp, He did so many things with sound,loops, feedback,etc. he and Brian Eno came up with this sound loop thing and got a patent on it even.But I could'nt tell you about the elephant sound... I never heard it.

try taking the cord out out of the pickup and sliding it down the strings
