Your PC obviously includes the free Vista upgrade.
One thing to consider is that once you activate the upgrade (which requires you to enter the key to your present version of Windows) you "may" no longer be able to use that key to reinstall the existing OS on your PC again.

This means you may be stuck with Vista ... like it or not.
That said ... I would wait.
Call HP & see if that is indeed the case ..... then make your decision.

I also own an HP Media Center like your own, & find that XP MCE does all I need it to do.

I'm fortunate enough to have free access to a full version of Vista & so I tried it on my PC. Once the initial excitement from the new GUI & all the bells & whistles wore off I realized that it is more fluff that substance.
Also, some programs I use on XP would not run on Vista.

I also learned that Vista likes to stick its nose into copyright protection issues involving third party media & software. This really did it & so I decided to go back to XP MCE.

Well, other than Vista's growing pains, it is a very fast operating system. I have had a few bumps in the road, but I'm happy. The first service pack will fix a lot of the small irritants. However, if you don't like surprises, stay with XP for six more months.

You should only get a new OS like Vista only if your needs/wants require it. If hardware or software you want if only supported on Vista, then go and get it. If everything runs fine as is why change it?

I myself am going to upgrade because I want experience with Vista so I can support future users.

It wont make much of a difference due to your hardware on the otherhand it might even be a pain. It is just decorations here and there. But as i said it will pe a pain to get all the right drivers for your hardware and if lets just say the right driver is not out yet your SOL until it comes out.

Hope it helps.
