I think that they're unsure if their answer made any sense and they're hoping you'll know.

Funnily enough, I am amazed by the lack of thinking some of these "think about it" people have actually done before they answered.

How dare they live their lives on automatic pilot, regergitating other people's terms and ideas as if they were their own works of great genius!

Boring people. And indeed, patronising.

No, it could be the person answering is unsure of their advice, and all they are asking is for you not to dismiss them when they have taken the time to offer some info or similar. Perhaps it's an age thing, do older people say "think about it" to young people e.g teachers to pupils.

I figure if they tell you to think about it then it's because they are a stupid *** and don't know the answer. This way you keep thinking about it and drive yourself crazy. If they say think about it I usually tell them screw you.
