It is said that the measure of a civilised society is that which provides for the needy in times of adversity (and the sick and poor).
The world looks on shocked at the neglectful way in which the administration failed in its duty to New Orleans residents after scenes more often seen in 3rd world countries.
Was this the actions of a civilised society?

It is shameful that the search for bodies was called off due to budget restraints. It is shameful that some residents have received eviction notices for the trailers they are loaned before anybody has lifted a finger to help rebuild their homes. It is shameful that the levees are being rebuilt to the previous protection level only (damned budget again), when all studies have indicated they need to be built to the next level, or this will happen again.

Look up the dollar figure spent on New Orleans. And the dollar figure spent on redistribution of wealth in this country. It's disgusting.

If the people of New Orleans believe that they should be under the total control and protection of the Federal Government, then they need to dump their city charter (and mayor) and the rest of the state (their governor) and become a Federal Territory under a Federal Marshal, which will solve all future delay problems.

As long as the citizens of the other 49 states are bankrolling Louisiana, I think we should have something to say about it, since no state or city --- not even New York City --- has been as dependent upon the Nanny State for its existence as New Orleans.

I heard that the UK SAS went over to do live fire training in New Orleans - to take out any stragglers left in the floods...and any looters that were roaming about... I am a supporter of GW - but it Shocking & it was a wee bit too obvious that it was used as a way of disposing of a lot of Poor Black's.. I could not comprehend how America could send Armies around the world in hours - but couldnt organise Aid to its own people...

I am against spending billions rebuilding New Orleans or any of the susceptable to flooding low lying areas.
And furthermore....If any aid is provided there ought to be some way to verify that the person or persons applying for aid ACTUALLY lived in New Orleans environs when Hurricane Katrina struck.
