Depends on the job. Sometimes you can fake it with a subsitute, but as you've discovered, sometimes it isn't worth making yourself nuts and wearing yourself out because you don't have the right tools--and then it pays to wait until you do...as long as you don't just use that as an excuse to procrastinate the task!

I wouldn't start the job till I had everything I needed,and if by chance I forgot something I would run to the store and get it before I would leave the job undone!!

In my line of work I run into that problem often. I don't have the time or money to wait, so I make what ever tool's available to me work.

first off why are you throwing dirt. and do you have a neighbor that could help you out. weather you find someone and maybe pay them gas or offer to pay a little bit. or hire someone to do it. why do something that might harm your back or put in into danger.
