That is called a favicon.ico You start by creating the image at a png in both 32x32 and 16x16 pixel sizes then combine them into a file called favicon.ico. I use a free program called png2ico for doing this.

Now upload the favicon.ico file and the 16x16 pixel image named favicon.png into your website folder and include the following lines in your webpage between the HEAD tags





This should work in all popular browsers.
