It really depends on the purpose of my travel. However, I mostly stay with the various Choice Hotels properties. I especially like Sleep Inns, which are normally inexpensive, modern, and clean. Comfort Inns and Quality Inns (also Choice properties) tend to be less consistent.

Other times I'll choose Motel 6, one of the cheapest chains out there, but almost always clean and well-located. I don't really care for "luxury" hotels, which I think of as overpriced. After all, a hotel mostly is just a place to sleep.

Since you specifically mention mid-range, in addition to Sleep Inns, I also like Microtel (again because they're invariably new properties) and Fairfield Inns. I used to enjoy Holiday Inn Express , but they've re-designed their beds (with lots of pillows and practically no blankets) to where I find them uncomfortable.

Fancy Fancy/ Ritz Carlton (stuffy stuffy), Four Seasons

Upscale/Hyatt (always a winner!), Hilton, Marriott, Embassy Suites, Westin, Wyndham

Mid-range/Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Fairfield Inn, Courtyard by Marriott, Ramada Inn, Best Western

Budget/Holiday Inn Express, Sleep Inn, EconoLodge, Red Roof Inn, Days Inn, and Motel 6 (which often gets a bad rap, but it can save you alot of money, especially near major metropolitan areas).

You really can't go too wrong with any of these, so it pretty much depends on your budget and where you're going. Happy travels!

All with room service, restrauraunt, spa and a indoor pool. I think the best place i stayed was several resorts. The Marriot and Ritz Carltons are usually rated 4 to 5 stars and the price shows it. The food is good and the beds are the best. If you want cheap, stay at a Holiday express or a Best Western. I think if u are really looking for a chain, most Hiltons are good. I would stay away from the fly by night no brands, they tend to be seedy and may not be the type of place u want to take a family.. If you want luxuary the Four Seasons is rated on of the best. I would stay at
the Plaza in NY or the Four Seasons in SanFrancisco and in Florida, stay at the Breakers...
Happy Ho Teling.

I only stay with Marriott. They understand customer service, food, and most importantly, how to clean a room. They have 7 different levels of hotel/resort, ranging from less than $100 per night to thousands per night.
Did I mention the food?
They have the best beds (the Marriott bed), in every room, regarless of price. The service is impeccable throughout the chain. Not only that, but they also encourage family values, etc. They are not afraid to stand up and say what they believe. They understand that most people believe the same thing, and aren't afraid to lose the few customers whose values are grossly (and usually gross) different.
They also have an awesome rewards system. We rarely pay for a room anymore.
They have recently joined wit the Ritz Carlton for several ventures. This was a good move.
And, they have the best breakfast around.

Days Inn. Very reasonable and clean, upscale accomodation. The highlight for me though is their continental breakfast, which isn't limited to a "coffee and a muffin". They have a cafe with a great selection including waffles, juice, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc, etc! What a great way to start your day! I'm going to stay in one next Sunday when I leave on a trip to New Brunswick.
