I'm going with a small group of friends for a long weekend near Stowe in early March.. what would you recommend seeing/doing in that and the surrounding areas besides skiing and the like? We're willing to drive some distance to explore.. Thanks!

Vermont is a small enough state that you can travel to any town in a short amount of time. Barre Vt. is the granite capital of the world and has a huge quarry and the HOPE cemetery(if it is open in the winter) Cabot cheese is in Vt., The Vermont Country store is in southern Vt. (2 locations) Ben and Jerry's Ice cream has tours,Lake Champlain is located near the upper western section, The Von Trappe Lodge is in Stowe(the sound of music). I love doing day trips to Vt.(I live in NH) I just buy a road map that has all the listings of what is located in the towns and go from there. There are always brochures in the hotels, restaurants etc to pick up and get ideas from.

Vermont has some fun things to do, like different tours you can go on, etc. I am not sure what is open based on the season. When I went there last fall we planned the whole thing practically via www.visitvermont.com and had a blast. Stowe is a great place. If you can, staying at the StoweFlake is amazing! Enjoy your trip!!

Go visit the Great North Eastern Kingdom. Lake Willoughby is beautiful and Lyndonville has much history.
