First, always be prepared. The person needs to understand that they made a major breech of the law. The judge will not likely take that lightly. It would help to dress in a nice suit or proper dress clothes (don't show up in dingy jeans and a shirt with holes). Second, gather letters of reference from people who can honestly share something positive about this person's contribution to society and ability to be stable and safe. Be very polite and respectful to the judge and all others in the court room. Do not deny the existence of a problem. Next, go to a lawyer and get some legal advice. This is going to cost but in the long run may save the person a great deal more trouble. Getting a DUI evaluation from a counseling center might help (but talk to an attorney first). Joining AA will be positive. Also try to get into some alcohol rehab counseling. This person may not think they have a problem, but if they got a DUI, they have a major problem. Good luck.

First of all, you will NOT impress him/her. Period. Just be polite and dress conservatively. Let your lawyer do the talking and do NOT speak unless spoken to.

No judge will be impressed no matter what you do you could hold up a sign sayind how much bribe but I woudnt try it

Be passive, don't interrupt, be honest and express regret for what you have done. Don't try to kiss up either. That makes them sick. And don't even try to bullshit him/her. He/she has seen every trick in the book.
